Alabama Peanut Co.

If you are headed to or through Birmingham, Alabama, you must make this Morris Avenue shop a stop on your journey. The building and antique roasters have a long history....in fact, peanuts have been sold from the 2016 Morris Avenue location since 1907. While walking down the cobblestone street and entering the building, you can't help but think of the time gone by.

If you're lucky you will get to park right outside their door as they have a few spots limited to 5-minute parking. This, of course, is the right amount of time to get your peanuts......assuming you can quickly make up your mind due to the many flavors.

Peanuts!!!!

Alabama Peanut Co.

APC carries both roasted and boiled peanuts.....I'd say we get boiled about 70% of the time. While we love their roasted peanuts, their boiled peanuts have flavors that are elevated.

Roasted flavors include Original, Dark Roast, Original with Salt, and Cajun Roast. You can't go wrong with any of these but when we are getting roasted, our top choice is Salted. The nuts are roasted perfectly with just the right amount of salt. Perfection is the best word to describe these nuts.

However.....it is their boiled peanuts that bring us much happiness. They have their classic salt and Alabama Cajun. Good. Solid. However, we are pulled like a magnet depending on the unique flavors they are boiling on a given day.

Some of these unique flavors include Wickle's Pickles, Milo's Sauce, Jalapeño Lime, Baked Beans, Buffalo Ranch, Collard Greens, Salty Dill, Coconut Curry, Pineapple Lava, Tangy Gold Barbecue, Bourbon Barbecue, Conecuh Sausage and Sauerkraut, Old Bay and PBR, and Full Moon Bar-B-Que.

We are subscribers to the APC text messages. Each Monday we get a text telling us what flavors they will have for the week. Additionally, they have a few locations in the suburbs they deliver to. So these available flavors are included. If they are ever going to be at a pop-up, the flavors are included in this text as well.

When you walk into APC, you are immediately hit with the smell of whatever flavor they are currently boiling. It's a small establishment and you can see the workers as they work their magic. Our most recent visit, meant we had the smell of Full Moon Bar-b-cue sauce. If you are from Alabama, you know what I mean. If you aren't local, Full Moon has been a part of the Birmingham restaurant landscape since 1986. Their sauce can be found in our grocery stores and, for those not local, you can even find it on Amazon.

Full Moon adds a dollop of chow-chow to their BBQ sandwiches. The Alabama Peanut Company, even included this chow-chow to their boiled peanuts.

Small containers (16 oz) are $6 and large containers ($32 oz) are $9.

Be sure to check their Facebook page or their website for their current menu and operating hours.

We love Alabama Peanut Company and we encourage you to try it out. A bit nostalgic, a lot delicious......your going to love it.
