Recently, many people have started asking about using Turo instead of renting a car through a rental agency. Here's our take:
We have used Turo at least 6 times.....maybe more. We have had nothing but good a good experience each time we've rented.
The first time we used Turo was in Denver, CO. At that time (not sure if this has changed), Denver International didn't allow Turo rentals on their property. Because of this, we had to take an Uber to a parking lot to meet the owner of the Jeep to take possession. While this was a bit awkward, it was very professional and was without incident. When we later dropped the Jeep back off, we had to also get an Uber to take us back to the airport. While this was a bit inconvenient it wasn't unreasonable.
The rest of our Turo experiences have been on airport property. The simplicity of walking from the airport terminal directly to our Turo car has been super easy. This has eliminated the long waits that would often happen at the rental agency.
Pros:
- knowing exactly what car we are renting
- price is lower than a rental agency
- not having to wait for a car to become "ready"
- feeling of being in control
- Turo app walks you through the rental process
Cons:
- not all airports allow for Turo to be onsite
- have heard of "shady" Turo owners blaming renters for damages that didn't happen
- some cars have mileage limits
Unless the car rental business changes, we will probably never rent from a traditional rental agency again. Turo has changed our car rental experience for the better.
